What's New
User Environment Manager 9.4.0 provides bug fixes described in the Resolved Issues section of the release notes, and the following enhancements:
- Added All AppStacks attached event in triggered taks. You can use this new event to perform tasks when all AppStacks are attached. This configuration is useful when actions have corresponding conditions that rely on an AppStack not yet attached during logon.
- Argument-based privilege elevation. This new method of privilege elevation allows you to elevate executable files based on specific combinations of file paths and command-line arguments.
- Privilege elevation logging. When you enable Privilege elevation logging to the Windows event log, you now have the option of configuring User Environment Manager to also log de-elevated child processes launched by the elevated application.
- Operating System condition. This condition changed names from "Windows Version" to "Operation System."
- Windows 10 Start Menu. You can use this new User Environment Manager built-in setting for the Start menu layout on Windows 10 Version 1703 and higher.
- Support for Windows 10, Version 1803 (April 2018 Update)
Other Notes
- Secured Approach. User Environment Manager provides a secured by default approach by logging the users out in case the Flex config files path is not available at logon.
Migration
If you migrate from VMware Persona Management to VMware User Environment Manager, see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2118056 for the required migration steps.
Resolved Issues
- Removing the local profile on Windows 10 might cause issues in subsequent logon sessions
Enabling the advanced configuration setting Remove local profile at logoff on Windows 10 might cause issues with Microsoft Edge and other UWP applications when the same user logs on again and receives a new profile.
This issue is resolved in this release.
- Users might experience a 60-second delay when they launch applications in a Microsoft App-V environment
When users launch a native application in a Microsoft App-V environment, if the native application launches any child processes, the child processes are delayed for 60 seconds.
This issue is resolved in this release.
- User Environment Manager does not save Internet Explorer cookies on Windows 10 Version 1703 and 1709
The Windows Common Setting Internet Explorer – WebCache does not correctly capture cookies on Windows 10 Version 1703 and 1709.
This issue is resolved in this release.
- The Environment Variable condition can match environment variable of other users
Environment variables that are set by User Environment Manager can interfere with the evaluation of Environment Variable conditions. If a condition references a variable that does not exist for the current user but that has previously been set for another user, User Environment Manager evaluates the condition with the other user’s variable.
This issue is resolved in this release.
- User Environment Manager Self-Support does not work with SyncTool in NoAD mode
When you configure SyncTool in NoAD mode, User Environment Manager Self-Support does not work as it tries to access the remote shares instead of the local sync path.
This issue is resolved in this release.
- The [EXPAND ENV VARS] token does not work in NoAD mode
If you use User Environment Manager in NoAD mode, User Environment Manager expands environment variables in Flex configuration files incorrectly as it uses the environment variables of the SYSTEM user.
This issue is resolved in this release.

Known Issues
- HTML Access File Transfer
VMware Blast HTML Access File Transfer depends on the VMware Blast "Configure clipboard redirection" policy setting. To enable download functionality, the "Configure clipboard redirection" policy must be set to "Enabled in both directions" or "Enabled server to client only" (see the "VMware Blast Policy Settings" section in the Setting Up Desktop and Application Pools in View guide for more information.)
Workaround: HTML Access File Transfer also depends on the Horizon Smart Policy "Clipboard" setting. If this setting is configured to prevent copying from agent to client, the download functionality is disabled.
- Cannot display button text on some Asian versions of Windows operating systems
On some Asian versions of Windows operating systems, the button text in the Management Console, the Application Profiler, and the Helpdesk Support Tool might be missing.
Workaround: Specify the /NoScale command line argument when you start the Management Console, Application Profiler, and the Helpdesk Support Tool.
- Button text truncated on some Asian versions of Windows operating systems
On some Asian versions of Windows operating systems, the button text in the Self-Support Tool is truncated if a German Multilingual User Interface is used.
Workaround: No workaround exists for this issue.
- Folder redirection of Roaming AppData does not function on Windows 10 Version 1803
When configuring folder redirection to the AppData folder, the redirection fails for users on Windows 10 Version 1803 systems with the following error message in the log file: [ERROR] Error 0x80070057 redirecting 'AppData' folder to '\\server\share\...'
Workaround: No workaround exists for this issue. The issue exists in Windows 10 Version 1803, which cannot redirect the AppData folder.
- You might encounter limitations with the Windows 10 Start Menu Windows Common Setting
Configuration settings for the Start menu itself, such as Show most used apps and Use Start full screen, are not saved.
Workaround: No workaround exists for this issue.
- You might encounter limitations with the Microsoft Edge Windows Common Setting
The Open Microsoft Edge with setting and the default search provider are not saved. Also, Microsoft Edge settings cannot roam between systems with different bitness.
Workaround: No workaround exists for this issue.
